Once the budget projections are complete, The Producer sets about raising the Capitalisation. An Investment Proposal will be issued containing the financial information referred to above, together with details and background of the cast and creative team who will realise the show.
In addition, if the show is a new musical, there may be Backers Auditions. These are informal gatherings designed to encourage prospective investors to part with their money, when the director outlines the story, and some of the songs are performed.
If the Capitalisation is say £700,000, the Producer offers perhaps 700 Units in the show at £1000 each. So if you invest £1000 you own 1/700 of it. You can generally take as many units as you wish. If raising the money proves difficult, ½ or even ¼ units may be offered.
